Carmen Yuen, a spirited shuttler from New Zealand who is representing Auckland II, employed all of her skills in the Women’s Singles battle and managed to beat Jenny Matthews of North Harbour II at the New Zealand Division 2 Slazenger Cup 2012 on Friday, August 10, in Hamilton.
The talented Carmen, who proved her elevated class in all of her matches, dig deep into her arsenal while playing against Jenny and managed to chuck out her after a hard-fought battle that took three games of top quality play.
The in-form Carmen worked really hard in the opening set and took it with a tight score but lost the second game in the similar fashion. However, she became aggressive in the deciding set and won the match with a considerable margin.
In the meanwhile, Jenny also played to her maximum potential but failed to take the opening game. However, she made the score levelled by winning the second set. In the decider, she failed to play positive badminton and lost the battle in rubber games.
The first game was absolutely fantastic for the crowd when both shuttlers put up staggering show of positive and attacking badminton.
The tempo of rallies was quite high as both players were at their best speed and remained neck-to-neck until the mid-game interval.
After the break, they continued in the similar fashion without dropping their speed and reached at 21-21.
At this crucial stage, Carmen played with precision and remained successful in grabbing two consecutive points to end up the set with a 23-21 score on the board.
In the second set, the tempo of the match remained same as both shuttlers played attacking badminton and reached at the concluding phase without taking any lead.
However, Carmen failed to live up to expectations this time as she could not play well at the ending stage and lost the battle with a 19-21 score on the board.
In the deciding game, Carmen was everywhere on court as she played with complete control all the way and ended it up in a lopsided manner with a stunning 21-9 score on the board.
The impressive Carmen ended this thrilling battle in rubber games with an entertaining score of 23-21, 19-21 and 21-9.
