New Zealand Division 2 Slazenger Cup: Matthew Chan punishes John Morahan in Men’s Singles encounter
Matthew Chan, who is a spirited shuttler and represents Auckland II, delivered a spectacular performance in Men’s Singles encounter and punished Canterbury’s John Morahan at the New Zealand Division 2 Slazenger Cup 2012 on Saturday, August 11, at Hamilton,
New Zealand.
Many people were expecting a nail-biting contest between these two shuttlers but the killing performance of Matthew made it a lopsided battle as he ended it up in an authoritative manner without letting his rival to even get close.
The in-form Matthew played with greater level of confidence and he missed no chance to maintain pressure on his challenger and easily thrashed him in a smashing fashion by a comfortable difference on score board.
Morahan, in the meanwhile, could not put his rival under pressure in the whole match as he failed to cope up with the pace of rallies and easily crashed out without taking even a single game in this Men’s Singles clash.
Matthew was impressive in his play in opening set of this battle as he played with aggression and took the bird early from all corners to take advantage on score board.
The positive and aggressive approach of Matthew helped him to take a reasonable lead on score board in the opening half.
In the start of concluding half of first game, Matthew stretched the gap without facing any problem as his speed was impressive and he did not make any mistake in ending up the opening game with an inspiring 21-13 score on the board.
In the second set, Morahan tried to live up to expectations by playing competitive badminton. He geared up his speed and managed to stop his rival from setting up a huge lead until the mid-game interval.
After the one-minute break, Matthew again took over the charge and started to dictate his challenger in all corners. He was in wonderful control of rallies and managed to snatch the game from Morahan with a four-point margin of 21-17.
The aggressive Matthew registered a comfortable win over Morahan as he finished off the battle in two sets by putting up a convincing 21-13 and 21-17 figure on the board.
