Northern Districts 155 v Auckland 156 - Auckland won by 3 wickets (with 6 balls remaining)
In the ongoing HRV Cup 2011/12, Auckland won their T20 match against Northern Districts by three wickets and six balls remaining at Colin Maiden Park, Auckland on Monday, December 26, 2011.
After winning the toss, the hosts chose to field first in a bid to restrict their opponents on a small total.
However, the plan failed to transpire, as Northern Districts had an impressive start to their innings, with openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BJ-Watling-c1172 hammering the bowlers all around the park, without the any remorse.
It was obvious that, the batting side wanted to bat their way to domination and score a big total on the board to give the hosts a run for their money.
For Auckland’s strike bowlers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KD-Mills-c1781, the Northern openers were just too good as the bowlers seemed colourless and out of clue against the belligerent batting onslaught that was unleashed upon them.
Finally in the 8th over, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Northern-Districts-c825 had posted 65 runs on the board.
Two runs later, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andre-Adams-c1033 struck for his side by dismissing Wilson, who lost his wicket after hammering a stupendous knock of 45 runs.
After this wicket, Auckland tightened their grip on the batting side and prevented the batsmen from playing big innings.
In the end, the side clobbered 155 runs with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-McGlashan-c2178 on three runs.
Coming out to bat, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Auckland-c766 had a respectable total to chase, but with the depth in their batting line-up, they knew they had a fancy chance of winning the match.
Openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Guptill-c1980 gave their side an opening stand of 50 runs in 5.1 overs to leave the opposition flabbergasted.
However, it was the knock of 35 runs by all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Colin-de-Grandhomme-c51409 that helped his side win the game as Auckland reached the target in 19 overs for the loss of seven wickets.
