New Zealand Junior International: Felicity Leydon Davis – Lilian Shih bag title on home soil
New Zealand’s talented female shuttlers Felicity Leydon Davis and Lilian Shih double the joy of local fans as they bagged the Women’s Doubles title at the 2012 New Zealand Junior International on Sunday, May 13, in New Zealand.
In the title match, Felicity and Lilian toppled their compatriots Angie Leung and Rayna Phillips and grabbed the crown in a convincing manner.
Felicity and Lilian, who were un-seeded in Women’s Doubles draw of the tournament, showed their powerful skills when they put up phenomenal show and wrapped up the battle with a decent margin.
The in-form Felicity and Lilian did not show any mercy to their team-mates and ended up the final match in straight games by taking just 26 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Angie and Rayna could not put up strong show as they were helpless against the power play of their team-mates and bowed down without taking any game.
In the first game, both sides showed aggressive performance by hitting the bird hard from all areas of the court and remained close on the score board.
Until the one-minute break in the first set, both pairs kept their home fans thrilled while remaining close on the score board.
After the break, Felicity and Lilian managed to dominate the pace at net and also pushed their opponent on the back foot.
They remained dominant at this crucial stage of first game and managed to bag it with a three-point advantage of 21-18.
In the second game, Felicity and Lilian dominated the pace in opening rallies but could not take a comfortable lead as their opponents remained closely behind on the score board until the one-minute interval.
After the break, the in-form Felicity and Lilian geared up their speed and executed powerful smashes in right areas.
They were on driving seat at this critical stage in the second game and did not face any considerable opposition from their team-mates and eventually took the set with a 21-17 score on the board.
Felicity and Lilian won the Women’s Doubles title without losing any game in the final match and ended it with a superb score of 21-18 and 21-17.
