New Zealand’s Samuel Ho and Riga Oud cheered their home fans as they nailed Men’s Doubles title at the 2012 New Zealand Junior International on Sunday, May 13, in New Zealand.
In the final battle, Samuel and Riga stunned their higher ranked challengers Daniel Guda and Athithan Selladurai of Australia and won the crown in a spectacular fashion.
The un-seeded Samuel and Riga put up sensational show and as they played with precision and overpowered Daniel and Athithan who were top seeds in Men’s Doubles draw of the championship.
The lower ranked Samuel and Riga were impressive in front of their home fans and won the battle in straight games while taking just 19 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Daniel and Athithan, who were the favourites to win the title, could not live up to expectations and received a shocking defeat from the hands of their lower ranked challengers without taking any game.
In the first game, Samuel and Riga were impressive when they showed aggression and remained successful in managing an early lead on the board.
In the meanwhile, Daniel and Athithan failed to live up to expectations as they could not dominate the pace of rallies.
Until the one-minute break, Samuel and Riga were miles ahead on the board.
After the break, the top seeds tried to play attacking and positive game but failed to disturbed the flow of their rival.
Samuel and Riga won the opening game easily with a completely one-sided score of 21-13.
In the second game, both shuttlers played tremendous badminton and remained close until the one-minute interval in the game.
After the mid-game break, the local shuttlers tried to take lead but could not manage it as their higher ranked challengers were also playing positive badminton.
The score reached at the crucial stage of 20-20 when Samuel and Riga became quicker at net and managed to win the second game with a dramatic 22-20 score on the board.
Samuel and Riga emerged as victorious by winning the title match in just 19 minutes with a 21-13 and 22-20 margin on the board.
