New Zealand Junior International: Sawan Serasinghe – Gronya Somerville win Mixed Doubles title
Australia’s Sawan Serasinghe and Gronya Somerville showed their impressive class and won the Mixed Doubles title at the 2012 New Zealand Junior International in New Zealand, on May 13, 2012.
In the final encounter, Sawan and Gronya put up tremendous show and tamed Joseph Timms and Marcia Ho of New Zealand and emerged as title winners.
Sawan and Gronya, who were top seeded shuttlers in main draw of the championship, registered a sensational victory over their lower ranked opponents by taking just 16 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Joseph and Marcia could not live up to expectations as they failed to stretch their winning performance in the tournament and lost the final in straight games without putting up strong show.
In the first game, both couples put up spirited show by keeping the pace of rallies high and also did not miss any chance of earning points.
However, until the mid-game break in first set, both sides remained close on the score board.
After the break, Joseph and Marcia tried to cheer their home fans by playing fast badminton but they failed to control the bird at net and also remained struggling in the court.
In the meanwhile, Sawan and Gronya remained positive in the court and they also dominate the pace of rallies at net.
The top seeded Australian couple won the opening game with a reasonable 21-18 score on the board.
In the second game, Sawan and Gronya occupied the driving seat from the starting points and remained in complete control of the pace.
They remained fully focused and also dictated their rivals in all corners of the court. Until the one-minute interval, the Australians were ahead on the board.
After the break, they continued their positive and killing run in the court and did not show any sign of mercy for their local opponents.
The top seeds finished up the second game with a superb 21-15 score on the board.
The in-form Sawan and Gronya won the Mixed Doubles title easily by taking the final match with a remarkable margin of 21-18 and 21-15.
