New Zealand Junior International: Wei Jian Ai hammers Samuel Ho to secure Men’s Singles crown
Malaysia’s Wei Jian Ai powerfully made his presence felt to the world when secured Men’s Singles crown after hammering Samuel Ho of New Zealand in the title match of 2012 New Zealand Junior International on Sunday, May 13, in New Zealand.
The un-seeded Wei Jian put up phenomenal show of elevated badminton in the entire tournament and continued his impressive winning streak in the final contest as well.
The Malaysian was in tremendous form on the final day when he did not let his opponent to play his normal game and finished off the contest in straight games by taking just 26 minutes in the court.
Samuel, who remained impressive in the whole competition, failed to live up to expectations of his home fans as he could not compete well against the Malaysian and lost the final battle without creating any trouble for his rival.
From the starting points of first set, both men showed wonderful performance as they tried to build pressure by executing powerful shots from all corners.
However, until the one-minute break, it was the Malaysian shuttler who was going ahead of Samuel on the score board.
After the interval, Samuel remained slightly behind his Malaysian challenger but failed to dominate the pace of rallies.
In the meanwhile, Wei Jian played with precision and proved his elevated skills by setting up a reasonable lead at the ending phase.
The Malaysian did not lose his focus at any stage in the game and took the first set with a four-point margin of 21-17.
In the following set, Samuel tried to put up resistance in the opening rallies but he completely failed to stop the progress of his Malaysian opponent who was sailing smoothly in the game.
Wei Jian was focused in the game and he manipulated all loopholes of his opponent to take a remarkable lead until the break.
After the break, Wei Jian continued dominating the pace and also maintained pressure on his local opponent. He ended the set in a phenomenal fashion by a stunning margin of 21-9.
Wei Jian grabbed Men’s Singles title by beating Samuel in the title match with a 21-17 and 21-9 score on the board.
