New Zealand Rugby Union happy with Dan Carter’s new deal - Rugby News
New Zealand Rugby Union has shown great excitement after retaining the services of their star player, Dan Carter, for four more years. Carter announced this morning that he is staying with the union until the end of 2015.
Carter’s contract with the union was ending after the forthcoming Rugby World Cup, kicking off later this year in September. According to reports, New Zealand Rugby union has now retained his services for $2 million per year. NZRU has come to terms with
their first-five after extended negotiations of almost six months. 29-year-old Carter was approached by various overseas clubs and he pondered various options before making a decision.
NZRU chief executive, Steve Tew, who accompanied Carter this morning while announcing the details of the deal in a press conference, was delighted with the decision. Steve Tew declared the deal a great success for the union as many of their veteran players
have preferred overseas offers.
An exuberant Steve Tew expressed his satisfaction over the deal and said, "We are tremendously excited. Dan is the best player in the world so we are really delighted. If you retain the best 10 in the world in your ranks it makes it easier to retain other
players who want to play for the All Blacks."
Steve Tew further said that the Union had offered Carter a flexible deal and he responded positively. He added, “We believe that the contract is a reflection of the high standing that Dan has in the game both here and overseas. We have been very flexible
in our approach, which again shows how important we think Dan is to the All Blacks and New Zealand rugby.”
Earlier many major players from the All Blacks including Mike Delany, Stephen Brett and Luke McAlister had signed for various offshore clubs from Japan and France after the forthcoming Rugby World Cup. New Zealand feared they would lose depth in the squad
after the post World Cup scenario.
Dan Carter was also very happy with the deal and declared it a memorable moment for him. Carter told media that he preferred to stay with the union in the best interests of his country.
