New Zealand Rugby Union wants to help beleaguered winger Zac Guildford – Rugby News
The governing body of Rugby Union in New Zealand, New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU), has revealed their intensions to help international backs player Zac Guildford in the aftermaths of his recent
alcohol fueled incident. NZRU’s General Manager of Professional Rugby, Neil Sorensen, communicated NZRU’s intent to deal with Zac’s issue to the masses in a press conference on Sunday, November 13 at Wellington.
Sorensen added that they lack the background details of the incident, yet he assured of Union’s assistance to help Guildford. He said, “The first thing we'll do is find out the facts. The second
thing we will do is help the guy if he is in trouble. Again, our first move is to really say 'how can we help this guy', that's the first thing. But we've got to establish the facts and it sounds like he got up to something. We are not denying that.”
Earlier during the week on Friday, November 11, Guildford was found roaming around naked on Rarotonga, with his wet skin bruised and covered in blood. Later, he landed punches to a man who
tried to help and followed it by punching the back of the head of a 60-year-old Australian man in a nearby bar.
The 22-year-old All Blacks winger later climbed up the stage from where he flew to the bar’s kitchen where ultimately kitchen’s staff covered him with an ‘apron’. It was reported that he left
the place with a group of women with whom he was supposedly having a party during Friday evening.
Guildford is yet to make any comments on the event while people from different sections society have made their thoughts known.
Simon Porter, Guildford's agent, has restrained from either commenting on the matter or confirming that whether he has talked with Guildford on the matter or not. He said, “I'm not commenting,
I know as much as you do and it's just not the right time, I'm sorry.”
It’s reported that Greytown born, world Cup winning winger Guildford went to Rarotonga to participate in the wedding of rugby friend Jarred McCarthy and fiancée Sam Barlow. However, Cook Islands
News reported that Guildford is present on the island to participate in the secret wedding of his teammate Israel Dagg.
