New Zealand U20 defeats England in the final of Junior World Championship - Rugby News
New Zealand defeated England for the third time in the final of the Junior World Cup and claimed their fourth consecutive Under-20 crown. The New Zealanders overcame the English side by 33-22 on June 26, in Stadio Plebiscito, Padova, Italy.
England U20 team made a good comeback into the game during the second-half as they were trailing by 23-10 but could not stop the Baby Blacks from lifting their fourth trophy in a row.
Both the teams scored three tries in the final of the JWC, however, the last try from New Zealand player, Beauden Barrett proved devastating for England. Along with the impressive win in the biggest match of the event, New Zealand also maintained their unbeaten
record though out the championships. Collectively, this was the 20th consecutive victory for the Baby Blacks at the end of the fourth JWC. Piutau, Tameifuna and Barrett scored one try each for New Zealand whereas Wade scored two and Thomas one for
England.
New Zealander Gareth Anscombe had a wonderful day at Stadio Plebiscito as he scored on four penalties and three conversion kicks for his team. He scored 18 individual points out of the total of 33 points for his team. Every time he was given an opportunity
he was able to produce results for New Zealand.
The Baby Blacks were delighted with their performance in the final of the Junior World Cup. Talking to the reporters after the match, New Zealand’s coach, Mark Anscombe, appreciated his team for their brilliant victory over England. He said that, “This is
awesome to keep the winning streak going, we have been working hard and it is great to get the victory. That's a very good England team and they really took it to us, they beat us in a lot of areas today.” He further said that, "But we showed a little bit
of character and hung in there and when the opportunities came we took our points."
New Zealand has also set a world record by winning four consecutive Junior World Cup trophies.
