In the second ODI of the ongoing Australia Under-19s in New Zealand Youth ODI Series, the tourists beat the hosts by eight wickets with 31 deliveries remaining in the match which was played at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bert-Sutcliffe-c47851 Oval, Lincoln.
After being asked to bat first, the hosts got off to a flying start by hammering 76 runs with openers RK Weerasundara and HDR Collier launching an early onslaught.
This merciless partnership was finally broken by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Walker-c95903, who dismissed Weerasundara after the batsman had scored 36 runs off 42 deliveries.
With HDR Collier taking the lead role, he alongside S Hicks continued the ruthless onslaught, taking the score to 112, before S Hicks also lost his wicket to Walker with only ten runs to his name. On the final delivery of the same over, the bowler struck
once more by dismissing the opposition skipper, LJ Carter, for nil.
Collier and KJ McClure then forged another potent partnership and avoided an imminent batting collapse as they led their side towards 189 runs, after which the later became the fourth wicket to fall from his side with 41 runs off his bat.
With 198 runs on the board, the batting side lost the services of Collier, who was dismissed by Andrews, after hammering a brilliant knock of 86 runs.
In the middle-order, AW Noema-Barnett and KBB http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 showed flare by smacking 25 and 15 runs, while the rest of the batsmen failed to prosper as the side ended with 240 runs on the board for the loss of eight wickets in 50 overs.
With a competitive target ahead of them, the Aussie openers M Short and D Mortimer broke the backbone of the Kiwis by forging a stand of 109 runs, before Short became the first casualty from his side by losing his wicket to Weerasundara after scoring 73
runs.
D Mortimer and S Willis continued the batting offense as they hammered the bowlers all around the park, taking the score to 142 before Mortimer was caught and bowled by Hunter with 40 to his name.
S Willis and KR http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Smith-c90598 stayed unbeaten on 68 and 54, as Australia reached the target in 44.5 overs.
