A valiant century by Nepal Under-19 batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Naresh-c78656 Budayair went in vain as the New Zealand Under-19 bowlers propelled their team to a 19-run win in their ICC Under-19 World Cup warm-up match at the Ron McMullin Oval in Buderim today on August 8.
New Zealand won the toss and chose to bat first – however, their openers remained unremarkable, with Ben Horne dismissed by Krishna Karki on 8, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Joseph-Davidson-c76074 caught and bowled by Sagar Pun on 11 in the 14th over.
Skipper Will Young, however, managed to get the team back on track with a solid 97. Robert O'Donnell (17) proved to be another weak link in the batting order, but Henry Walsh (53) and wicketkeeper batsman Cam Fletcher (43*) who followed him, chipped in with
vital contributions.
Saurav Khanal (8-0-46-3) claimed the prized wickets of Walsh and Young, but Fletcher powered on, and saw his side to a total of 267 by the end of 50 overs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nepal-c2965’s innings were characterised by stark differences in the individual performances of the batsmen. Opener Subash Khakurel (59) and Budayair (114) remained the stand-out performers for their side, but were unable to receive any help from the remainder
of the batting order.
Skipper Pradeep Airee (1) was the first to exit, caught and bowled by Matthew Quinn in the second over. The next wicket to fall was Khakurel’s, after Walsh sent him packing in the 34th over, by which point Nepal had managed to reach 131 for 2.
Hasim Ansari succumbed to Ish Sodhi at a disappointing 11 in the 39th over, and the remainder of the batting order gave their wickets away without much of a fight, registering single digit scores which were not enough to propel their side to victory.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rahul-c83321 Vishvakarma (7) and Sagar Pun (9) were both run out, and Arnie Yugaraja (4-0-25-3) dismissed both Rajesh Pulami Magar (8) and Fajlur Rahman (8) before taking care of Budayair in the 48th over.
Krishna Karki (4) was the last to fall, being dismissed via run out in the last over, and Nepal found themselves at 248 by the end of 50 overs – 19 runs short of their target.
