New Zealand Under-19s v Pakistan Under-19s – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Under-19 World Cup 2012 – (23rd Match - Group B) – Match Recap
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 Under-19s at the John Blanck Oval in Buderim today on August 16.
The New Zealand Under-19s won the toss and elected to bat first, but the Pakistan U-19 bowlers did not allow the batsmen to settle in at the crease, with every bowler claiming at least one wicket while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zia-ul-Haq-c98603 (10-1-27-2), Ehsan Adil (10-2-21-2), and
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Nawaz-c77155 (10-0-32-2) all took 2 each.
The New Zealand U-19s opened their innings with Ben Horne (2) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Lumb-c1981 Carter (21), but their partnership was not fated to last long, with Zia-ul-Haq stepping in to dismiss Horne in the 7th over.
Carter set up a 32-run partnership with skipper Will Young (18) which came to an end when Carter was dismissed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zafar-Gohar-Khan-c98408 in the 18th over, followed by Young’s departure in the very next over at the hands of Player of the Match Mohammad Nawaz.
Robert O'Donnell (29) and Henry Walsh (33) steadied their team’s innings, setting up a 4th-wicket 58-run stand which got the team up to 102 by the 34th over. However, O'Donnell gave Imam-ul-Haq an easy catch off http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Usman-Qadir-c94698 in the 34th
over, after which it was a downhill slide for the New Zealand U-19s.
Arnie Yugaraja (2) and wicketkeeper batsman Cam Fletcher (3) both registered insipid performances, and despite the contributions of Sean Davey (17*) and Theo http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 Woerkom (14), New Zealand finished at a mediocre team total of 152 by the end of 50 overs.
The Pakistan U-19s breezed through the chase, and managed to reach 153 by 32nd over.
Skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Babar-Azam-c1122, who has frequently been the driving force behind his team’s innings, was unable to progress beyond a 1-run contribution, and found himself dismissed by Matthew Quinn in the second over.
Sami Aslam (18) and Imam-ul-Haq (40), however, did not allow the team’s momentum to flag, and set up a 46-run 2nd-wicket stand which came to an abrupt end with the dismissal of Aslam at the hands of van Woerkom (8-0-43-2) in the 13th
over.
Umar Waheed (1) followed him back to the pavilion in the very next over, dismissed by Davey, but Saad Ali (32) stepped up to set up a 51-run partnership with Imam-ul-Haq. Both batsmen found themselves swept off the pitch – Imam-ul-Haq via run out in the
25th over and Ali by van Woerkom – but Mohammad Nawaz (23*) and wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Salman-c88163 Afridi (18*) joined forces for an unbeaten 38-run stand which got their team safely over the finish line, with five wickets and 112 balls remaining.
The victory – the Pakistan U-19s’ third consecutive win in the tournament – enables the team to qualify for the next stage of the competition, and they will be battling it out with arch-rivals http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751
Stadium in Townsville.
