New Zealand Warriors’ lock Michael Luck to miss initial part of National Rugby League season
The New Zealand Warriors’ lock Michael Luck will sit out the initial month at the National Rugby League (NRL) 2012 season, in lieu of the severe shoulder injury he picked up during his training sessions. The injury now requires a surgical procedure as soon
as possible.
Luck’s shoulder was troubling him for past two seasons, but as he had been ignoring it all along, he never took it up seriously. He was taking it lightly because he had the feeling that it will get better on its own. However, now that it has reached unbearable
heights during the pre-season training session last month, surgery seems like the only solution.
Luck has been scheduled to undergo his surgical procedure on Thursday, December 22 that will reattach his left shoulder’s clavicle. It has been confirmed that the Kiwi player will take as long as 12 weeks for his full recovery, which means that he will miss
out on his initial training period and the first half of the upcoming season.
While speaking about his troubled shoulder, Luck said, “I’ve managed to get by with it and it felt fine at the end of last season but it’s been a problem for me again lately. It’s getting worse and I just have to have the operation as soon as possible. It’s
really disappointing and it’ll make for a tough Christmas Day I guess but it’s better to have it sorted out now so I can get back as soon as possible once the season starts.”
This will be the second time Luck will undergo the surgical procedure after Warriors’ 10-24 NRL grand final defeat against Manly at ANZ Stadium. It was confirmed that the player had been playing with a broken wrist, which later was confirmed through the
x-rays reports.
During his recovery period, Luck will miss three pre-season trials in February along with the four games of the next season lined up, which means that he will skip the grand final replay against 2011 at Eden Park on March 4 in premiers Manly .
This is not the first time that the player has been injured so brutally. In 2010, against Manly his leg was torn apart exposing his muscles, during the course of the game.
However, this time it has been felt immensely by the player because ever since he joined Warriors’ in 2006 he has missed out on a total of 10 games until now.
