New Zealand Women Cricket- Aimee Watkins retires from International Arena
Aimee Watkins, the Captain of the New Zealand Women cricket, has announced her retirement from international cricket. She will leave after the conclusion of the Quadrangular series this summer in England, which will involve England, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
She made her international debut by appearing in a match against the Australian Women on 20th February, 2002 at Adelaide Oval. She played her first Test against Indian Women on 27th November, 2003, at Bilakhiya Stadium, Vapi, and she
played her first T20 match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 Women on 5th August, 2004 at County Ground, Hove.
Aimee Louise Watkins was born on 11th October, 1982 at New Plymouth, Taranaki, a left hand batter and right arm off spin bowler.
She has played for New Zealand Women and Central Districts Women.
Watkins had a craze of playing cricket since she was in school, was picked up to represent http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754.
She has played two Test matches and scored 15 runs and has taken three wickets. She has appeared in 98 One Day International (ODI) matches and scored 1733 runs at an average of 21.13 runs, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-E-Best-c41115 of 111 runs, two centuries, and, five fifties. She has
grabbed 88 wickets at an average of 31.28 runs per wicket with best figures of 4 for two runs.
Watkins took part in 32, T20, matches and scored 714 runs, averaging 24.62 runs, her highest was an unbeaten 89 runs with three fifties. She has taken 20 wickets at an average of 21.55 runs per wicket with the best of 3 for 8 runs.
She commented on announcing her retirement:
"I've been playing internationals for ten years, so I've had a pretty good run and there are other things I want to do, including getting a full-time job," Watkins, who has led New Zealand since 2009, told
The Press. "So I'm looking forward to finishing up and getting on with the next stage”.
She got a knee injury, which was the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Main-c73911 reason of quitting the game, other than some domestic problems. She enjoyed playing for her country and regards herself lucky to be the Captain of the side.
"The knee [which has troubled Watkins over the past two years] has definitely slowed me down a bit, and I do most of my training on the bike now while trying to prolong my career. I had minor surgery on it a while ago, which didn't
help a lot".
