New Zealand Women v South Africa Women – ICC Women's World Twenty20 2012 (5th Match - Group B) – Match Update
A solid all-round performance from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Women's World Twenty20 2012, played today on September 28 at the Galle International Stadium.
The South Africa Women won the toss and elected to field first, but despite the efforts of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dane-van-Niekerk-c52216 (4-0-29-2), the New Zealand Women needed just one solid partnership to post a total of 151.
Openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Suzannah-Wilson-Bates-c92079 (14) registered mediocre performances, and at 24 for 2 by the 4th over, the New Zealand Women did not look to be off to a great start. However, Player of the Match Devine top-scored for the
team, in addition to registering a career-best performance, with a contribution of 59 off 46. Her 94-run stand with Francis MacKay (49) formed the crux of the team’s innings, and their combined efforts got the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 Women up to 118 by the 16th
over.
Devine was caught out by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sara-Jade-McGlashan-c88747 (9) coming to an end as both were dismissed by van Niekerk. By the end of 20 overs, with 5 wickets down
and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Katie-Teresa-Perkins-c70473 (2*) at the crease, the New Zealand Women posted a final total of 151.
The Kiwi Women then followed up with a fierce bowling attack, led by Browne (4-1-13-3), Devine (3-0-25-2), and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 Women found themselves unequal to the chase, cut off at 129 by the end of 20 overs.
Openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alison-Lucille-Hodgkinson-c43649 (31) and Benade (24) made a fair attempt at bringing the innings back on track with a 38-run stand.
Their partnership, however, proved to be the sole highlight of the innings, and their efforts remained unsupported by the remaining batting order, save http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 Niekerk, who top-scored for the team with an unbeaten 34.
The rest of the batters failed to register double-digit scores, and by the end of 20 overs, with 9 wickets down, the South Africa Women found themselves cut off at 129, granting the New Zealand Women a 22-run victory.
