New Zealand announce squad for first Test against South Africa – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 selectors on Friday announced the 13-member squad for the first Test of the three-match series against South Africa starting at Dunedin on March 7, 2012.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Ellis-c1037 earn their maiden Test calls into the national side, after impressing the selectors in the one-day series against the Proteas.
The national selection manager Kim Littlejohn hopes that the duo will bring the momentum into the Test series.
"We are pleased with the way the Test team has performed this summer and this group is looking forward to the challenge of continuing that success," Littlejohn said.
"Both Rob and Andrew have shown promise against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in limited-overs cricket and we believe they can transfer their form across to the Test matches,” he added further.
Ross Taylor, who missed out on the one day and T20 series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dean-Brownlie-c1349, however, has failed to recover in time
from his fractured finger.
Doug Bracewell, who will make the sidelines in the third and last ODI against Proteas due to disciplinary reasons, found a place in the 13-member squad for the Test series opener. However, his partner in the disciplinary ban of one
match, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JD-Ryder-c1679 failed to make the cut.
Both Bracewell and Ryder were overlooked for selection for the third ODI in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Auckland-c766 for breaking the team’s protocol after the six wickets loss to South Africa at Napier.
Ryder’s axe from the Test was an anticipated one following his struggles against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 during the two-Test series Down Under, December last year. Bracewell, however, was one of the most instrumental players for the Kiwis during
the same itinerary. His fine pace played a vital role in helping the Black Caps register their first victory against the Tran-Tasman rivals in their home ground in almost 26 years. The two-match series ended at 1-1.
The opening Test at Dunedin will be followed by two more at Hamilton and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wellington-c864.
