Cricket New Zealand, on Wednesday announced its 14-member Women’s squad for the Australia series starting in Rose Bowl, on January 20, 2012.
Right-arm medium pace bowler, Rachel Candy, and Morna Nielsen will return to the squad after making the sidelines for quite a long time. Candy, who has played ODIs and a solitary T20 International, has not made a national squad
since March 2008 while Nielsen’s last international appearance had come in February 2010. Nielsen has so far played three One Day Internationals only and was also overlooked for the Natwest quadrangular series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 last summer.
Katie Perkins and Maddy Green are the two uncapped inclusions in the side that would be led by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Suzannah-Wilson-Bates-c92079, who had taken over as Kiwi’s captain from retired Aimee Watkins. Both Perkins and Green have earned selectors’ nods on the
basis of their remarkable performances in the domestic Twenty20 tournament of New Zealand, the Action Cricket Twenty20.
Maddy Green, the top-order batter, compiled 150 runs in the Twenty20 tournament at an average of 37.50 while Perkins was dismissed only once in seven Twenty20 innings which saw her amassing 126 runs.
The national selection manager of New Zealand Cricket (NZC) Kim Littlejohn said that selections have been made based on players’ performances in the domestic Twenty20 competitions.
"The squad has been picked on the back of a hard fought domestic competition," said Kim Littlejohn speaking to the media reporters after announcing the squad.
"Top order batsman Maddy Green has been on the radar for some time and deserves her chance after impressing for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Auckland-c766 Hearts in the Action Cricket Twenty20 competition…Katie Perkins also demanded a spot in the squad with
strong performances in the domestic competition,” Kim added further.
