New Zealand beat Pakistan by 9 wickets in 1st ODI
Pakistan's One Day International (ODI) team were given a real wakeup call by New Zealand after winning their first Test series in 4 years.
The men in green were comprehensively beaten by New Zealand in the first One Day International (ODI). It was entirely a one sided affair from start to finish.
Pakistan while batting first did not fare well against the bounce and swing from New Zealand’s bowlers. There was a lack of planning and it looked as if they were caught by surprise by the pace and bounce in the pitch.
The visiting team were blown away for just 124 runs and in reply the Black Caps hardly broke a sweat in getting to the target and took a 1-0 lead in the 6 match ODI series.
Shahid Afridi, the Pakistan Captain, is desperate to impress as the leader of the team, because he has not yet been named as the captain of the world cup squad.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972, the Test captain, is believed to be the more likely to take the job.
Afridi did the first thing right by winning the toss, but his decision to bat first was not the correct one.
New Zealand came out all charged up and got the ball in the slot right from the start. Muhammad Hafeez, who had a difficult Test series, could not get back his form in the ODIs either and was caught behind for naught off Tim Southee.
Kamran Akmal, the wicket keeper/batsman, making his was back in the team did not find things in the middle any easier, and continued to struggle against the moving ball. Jessi Ryder took his catch off the bowling of Southee for 8 runs.
Younis Khan came in at number 3 and tried to spend most of the time at the non striker’s end.
Asad Shafiq walked in at number 4, and he too was found wanting against the short pitch barrage. The young right hander was forced back and got one that moved in and Southee got him out LBW for just 4.
Younis Khan and Misbah knew they had to put on a stand if they were to take Pakistan total to safety. Younis managed 24 runs from 35 balls with 2 fours, before he was caught behind by Hamish Bennet.
Umar Akmal the right hander, who was dropped for the two Test matches, did not help his case, as he was caught in the slips off the very first ball for naught.
Captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 came in and played in his typical carefree style, going after everything outside off stump. Misbah continued to add runs at a snail’s pace.
Afridi was Brendon McCullum’s third victim behind the stumps when he was dismissed by Southee for 15 runs.
Abdur Razzaq and Abdur Rehman were also dismissed in quick succession.
In the end, Misbah played some shots to get to 50 and Pakistan were all out for 124 in the 38th over.
Tim Southee claimed 5 wickets for New Zealand.
New Zealand’s reply began at the rate of nought.
But that did not stop Jessi Ryder and Martin Guptil from taking the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754.
Ryder smashed 55 runs from 34 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. He was the only wicket to fall. While Guptil remained unbeaten on 40 runs. Ross http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 was 23 not out as New Zealand got to the target in just the 18th over.
Tim Southee was named Man-of-the-Match for his 5 wickets. New Zealand leads the 6 match series 1-0.
