New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori would become the second Black Caps player to play 100 Tests for his national team – behind former captain Stephen Fleming - when he takes the field in the opening Test against
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 today.
On paper, the left-arm all-rounder has already played 100 Test games as he had made the Word XI squad against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in 2005.
The New Zealander said on Wednesday that the road till here has been quite gratifying and he is proud of the achievement. He, however, opined that he would like to deliver even better in the five-day game.
"It is a great honour for me and something I would really cherish all my life. It has been an amazing journey. For anyone to have such longevity is a great achievement. The fact that I have played well most all
the time and that it is not just a number, gives me great satisfaction," Vettori said while talking to media reporters ahead of the first Test in Ahmedabad.
The thirty-one-year-old said that he is happy with his all-round performance in the One-Day format of the game, but bowling in the longer version is something he feels needs improvement.
"My batting in both forms of the game has come on, as has my one-day bowling. But Test match bowling is something I want to get better at. There are a number of goals that I want to achieve and that is primary
among them. At times, I have been a successful Test bowler, but that is a part of my game I want to improve," said Vettori.
Vettori is approaching another achievement. He is short of just 38 runs to become the third all-rounder in the history of Test cricket, after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kapil-Dev-c70234 and Ian Botham, to score 4,000 runs and claim 400 Test scalps.
He currently has 325 Test wickets in his account and picking up to 400 wickets and crossing the 4,000 runs line is something the left-arm spinner aspires to achieve. The New Zealand captain said that he has worked
on his skills and is all set to cross the milestone.
He is also seeking to cross the 431 wickets of Richard Hadlee and become the highest Test wicket-taker for New Zealand. He said that after achieving the 400 wickets and 4000 runs milestone, his next target would
be Hadlee’s amazing record. Vettori declared that Hadlee remains “one of the greatest bowlers of all time."
