I'm going abroad to NZ, wellington more specifically, in the fall. What are some of the cultural aspects of NZ that I need to know as an American? Any recommendations about what i do while I'm there?

  1. When you say 'cultural' are you meaning things that NZers do but you don't want to do incorrectly? Eg, in NZ we walk on the left hand side of the footpath and stand to the left on escalators.

    Buses:

When you get off a bus say thank you to the driver.

Bus travel is divided into 'sections'. If you want to just travel within the Wellington CBD ('downtown') then ask for a 'city section'.

  2. In Wellington on the waterfront is the national cultural museum Te Papa . Also take a ride up the cable car situated in Lambton Quay, here you will get a view of wellington and you can take a walk through the beautiful botanical gardens . Take the ferry down to Picton for the day it takes 3 hours and is a lovely trip through the Marlborough sounds. Hope you get nice weather
