New Zealand ease to 10-wicket win against Zimbabwe in ICC World Cup 2011
New Zealand eased to a ten-wicket victory in their Group A match of the ICC World Cup 2011 against Zimbabwe in Ahmedabad. The black-caps were given a target of 163 runs, which they achieved comfortably in the 34th over without losing any wicket.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 had opted to bat first after winning the toss, but they weren’t able to post a fighting total. The wicket was very good for batting, and a high scoring game was expected. However, none of the Zimbabwean batsman played sensibly. They threw their
wickets away at regular intervals, and were unable to stay at the crease for too long.
Brendan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Prosper-Utseya-c82728 and Graeme Cremer scored 36 and 22 respectively to guide their team’s total over the 150 run mark.
The Kiwi bowlers had a very good day in the field today. Tim Southee took three wickets for his team whereas; Scott Styris, Daniel Vettori and Kyle http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mills-c76321 grabbed two wickets each. Zimbabwe needed wickets in order to win the match. However, it was always
a difficult ask for their bowlers to defend a very low total on a flat batting pitch.
Martin Guptill started the innings for New Zealand alongside wicketkeeper batsman Brendon McCullum. The pair played steadily and made sure that their team won the match without losing any wickets. After bowling out the Africans early, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 were expected
to come out attacking. However, the openers played sensible cricket, and scored at under five runs an over to get to the target.
Guptill top scored in the match with an unbeaten 86 runs off 108 balls. He struck seven fours and two towering sixes in his innings. McCullum was also in no hurry to chase the target, as he scored 76 runs off 95 balls. The wicketkeeper batsman smashed six
fours and two massive sixes.
The minnows were not able to cause any problems to the Kiwis, as all their bowlers were wicket-less. The spinners didn’t give away too many runs, but they needed wickets to win the match. Although New Zealand will be happy with their performance today, they
will be looking forward to be consistent against tougher opponents like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 as well.
