New Zealand fight back after losing an early wicket
On a bright sunny day at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792, New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first on a batting friendly pitch that is offering more bounce and pace than the Ahmedabad wicket.
In doing so, the tourists jogged through the overs to lay a solid foundation for the middle order batsmen. At lunch, they have gathered 75/1 in 26 overs, despite an early loss.
Martin Guptill and Tim McIntosh played watchfully during the first session’s play. So far, the pair have added 71 runs. The pair stayed on the crease steadily to avoid any further hiccups. In the process, Guptill out-scored his opener by scoring 36 runs,
including four boundaries and a six.
Furthermore, the opening batsman showed resilience and composure at the crease to nullify the effect of the new ball in the early overs. As a result, the left hander has played a measured innings of 26 runs in 76 balls.
The hosts have struggled to make an impact at the Rajiv Gandhi’s International Stadium as they have never won a Test match at this particular venue.
The visiting team, who looked to threaten http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BJ-Watling-c1172, Jeetan Patel and Hamish
Bennett.
India started off the day in an emphatic fashion as Sreesanth brought about the demise of the key member of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 batting line-up, Brendon McCullum with a beauty. Previously, the right-arm bowler moved the ball in the air and off the wicket.
Moreover, in the fourth over Sreesanth produced a gem of a delivery, which came back a bit in the air and moved off the surface to get the outside edge of McCullum’s bat, and the wicket keeper Dhoni did the rest by taking a simple catch to dismiss the Kiwi
batsman.
Apart from one wicket, none of the Indian bowlers made an impact with the ball. Zaheer Khan did some tricks with the red cherry, but wasn’t able to provide any further breakthroughs.
New Zealand are all set to score a mammoth first innings total on a flat pitch to gain an early advantage. The venom in the pitch has dried up and now it looks an easy paced wicket to bat on. The batting pair, on the crease looks in a good shape to pile
up a massive score.
