Following their 0-2 Test series defeat at the hands of India, New Zealand coach Mike Hesson has admitted his side are frustrated at having managed to come tantalisingly close to victory before going on to lose.
Ranked at number 8 on the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, and the ongoing tour of India held a similar fate for the Kiwis.
“We are ranked where we are for a reason, but I thought there were good signs in all areas of the game in Bangalore,” said Hesson. “... the dressing room was quite gutted because we put a top side under pressure, which many sides haven't been able to do in India in a long time. To put ourselves into that position and not get over the line was frustrating.
“The players are extremely hard on themselves, individually and collectively ... We're trying to get the guys to evolve so they can challenge each other and start to ask tough questions,” he added.
The first Test held little hope for the visitors, as they lost the match, played from August 23 to 26 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792, by an innings and 115 runs – a demoralising defeat by any standards.
However, the Kiwis attempted to make a valiant comeback in the second match, played from August 31 to September 3 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Their first innings, driven by skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LRPL-Taylor-c1849’s aggressive century (113), resulted in a total of 365, which the Indian team were unable to match up to during the initial stages of the match.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TG-Southee-c2659 chipped in with a massive 7-wicket haul to make sure the Indian batting order did not have a chance of gaining a lead, restricting them to 353 during their first innings. However, from there onwards, the Kiwis were unable to maintain consistent performances with both bat and ball.
The batsmen faltered during their second innings, only managing to set http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 a 261-run target, which the Indian batsmen chased successfully, securing a 5-wicket victory, and consequently the series, 2-0.
