New Zealand look to steady the innings against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, ICC World Cup 2011 Semifinal
New Zealand got off to a steady start in the semi-final match of the ICC World Cup, 2011 against Sri Lanka, at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo in Sri Lanka. The visitors reached 93 runs for the loss of three wickets at the end of 25 overs of play, with
Ross Taylor and Scott Styris unbeaten at the crease.
Daniel Vettori elected to bat first after winning the toss on a slow and turning pitch. He expected his team to score more than 250 runs, which was considered to be a very good total at Colombo.
The start to the Kiwi innings was a decent one, as openers Martin Guptill and wicketkeeper batsman Brendon McCullum were positive from the very first over. They played sensible cricket and guided their team to 32 in seven overs.
However, McCullum wasn’t able to capitalise on the good start, as he got out after scoring 13 runs off 21 balls. He struck one four and one massive six in his innings. The keeper batsman threw his wicket away in an attempt to slog-sweep the ball over the
midwicket boundary.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757. The aggressive left-hander got out after adding 19 runs from 34 balls to the total.
Guptill was looking good today, as he was playing risk free cricket. However, the stylish right-hander was undone by a superb yorker from Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga. The ball had speed and reverse swing, which proved to be too much for Guptill at the
end. He scored 39 runs off 65 balls with the help of three fours.
With three wickets down for 84, the Kiwi team was struggling to score runs. Ross http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 was joined by veteran Scott Styris in the middle and the pair will be the key for their team today. They were unbeaten on 16 and 4 respectively, half way through the
innings. Both are good players of spin bowling and they will be looking to rotate the strike in the middle overs and unleash in the death overs.
Rangana Herath, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Muttiah-Muralitharan-c78157 and Lasith Malinga took one wicket each for the home team.
