New Zealand put up a fight in the last session against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755
The New Zealand lower order frustrated the Pakistani bowlers in the post tea session of the first test match between the two teams. The home team was 177 for 7 at one stage but the day ended with an 83 run partnership between Tim Southee and Kane Williamson.
New Zealand were five down until the tea break and they suffered two early blows soon after the game resumed. The debutant wicketkeeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Reece-Young-c2302 was the first wicket to fall after he tried to sweep the ball off Abdur Rehman.
Young was a bit unfortunate as the replays suggested that the ball may have missed the stumps. The captain of the Kiwi team Daniel Vettori was unable to make an impact with the bat as he got out without scoring.
The young 20 year old batsman Kane Williamson along with Southee came to the rescue of their team and needless to say, they did a good job. The pair amassed a solid partnership which somewhat hurt the hopes of Pakistan to restrict the Kiwis to a low score.
Southee played some delightful shots to bring up his maiden half century in Test match cricket.
Williamson was a bit lucky when he was dropped by Younis Khan in the slips. The ball took the edge and then took a deflection off the wicketkeeper’s gloves which distracted http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319, who normally has a very safe pair of hands.
At close of play, Southee was unbeaten on 56 whereas Williamson managed 44 runs to put their side in a decent position.
For Pakistan, Abdur Rehman was the pick of all the bowlers as he took three wickets in the innings. He got good support from Tanvir Ahmed and Umar Gul; Tanvir took two whereas Gul got one wicket.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 will be happy with 260 runs on the board and with two set batsmen on the crease, the team will be hoping that the pair extends the lead to over 300 which will be a very testing total for the Pakistani players who struggle in bouncy pitches.
Pakistan will be satisfied with the overall performance of the team but the last session would have been a bit disappointing for the visitors. After two quick wickets in the session the team captain would have expected his bowlers to wrap up the innings
within 200.
Both the teams will be looking forward to the second day which will be very important in the context of the match. If the Kiwi team extends the total over 300, it would add pressure to the Pakistani batsmen, however, the bowlers will be charged to wrap up
things early tomorrow morning.
