New Zealand reach 100 for 6 in 25 overs against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 - ICC World Cup 2011
New Zealand were struggling against defending champions Australian in their second Group A match of the ICC World Cup 2011. The Kiwi team managed to score 100 for the loss of six wickets at the end of 25 overs. The match is being played at Nagpur in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
There was some overnight rain, which made the situation uncertain for both the captains at the toss. Although there wasn’t much assistance for the bowlers in the deck, Ricky Ponting elected to field first. The Australian captain expected some moisture underneath
the surface and said that it could come in handy for his pace bowlers.
On the other hand, Daniel Vettori was confident of posting a big total as he believed the wicket was flat. He also claimed that he would have batted first after winnings the toss. However, the black-caps didn’t get off to an ideal start. They lost a lot
of wickets half way through their innings, which could hurt their chances of winning the match.
Openers Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill looked confident at the start of their innings, but threw away their wickets away after a good start. McCullum looked threatening in his short innings of 16 runs off 12 balls, but gave away his wicket off a short
and wide ball from Shaun Tait.
Guptill tried to steady the ship for his team while the first-drop Jesse Ryder played his strokes freely. However, Guptill was undone by some low bounce as he was bowled by Shane Watson.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 were 40 for two in 8.5 overs when their best batsman Ross Taylor joined Ryder at the crease. Just when Ryder was looking good, the flamboyant batsman fished at a ball outside the off-stump from Mitchell Johnson and edged it into the safe hands
of Brad Haddin.
James Franklin and Scott Styris failed to trouble the scorers, while Taylor also got out after struggling to score seven runs from 22 balls. This saw the Kiwi team in deep trouble with six wickets down for just 73 runs in 17 overs.
Nathan McCullum then came out to bat alongside Jamie How and the pair were unbeaten on 16 and 13 respectively at the end of 25 overs. They will be looking to bat for as long as possible and posting a decent total for their bowlers to defend.
Ponting will be delighted with the start given by his bowlers. Tait took three wickets for his team while Johnson grabbed two. However, the bowlers didn’t have to do a lot, as the New Zealand batsmen gave away their wickets.
