New Zealand ended their 11-match losing streak after they overcame Pakistan comprehensively by 9 wickets with 196 balls to spare in the first of the six-match One Day International series at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wellington-c864.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 elected to bat first after wining the toss. The wicket had some pace and bounce and the Pakistani batsmen struggled with the early seam movement.
Mohammad Hafeez got out without scoring any run in the fourth over. Kamran Akmal returned to the ODI squad but the wicketkeeper batsman failed to live up to the hopes of the team and got out after just scoring 8 runs from 23 balls.
The inexperience showed for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972. Younis played well for his 24 runs but failed to carry on his innings and
got out.
Pakistan lost their top 5 wickets for just 57 runs. Afridi did not look comfortable at all at the crease and ballooned almost every shot he played. He got out after scoring 15 runs.
The lower middle-order failed to support Misbah and wickets kept falling regularly. However, Misbah continued his good form from the Test matches and scored a steady half-century for his team before he was the last man to be dismissed for Pakistan.
The visitors managed 124 runs and could only bat for 37.3 overs.
Tim Southee was menacing as he took five wickets in the match. The newly appointed bowling assistant of the team Allan Donald would be pleased with Kiwi bowlers’ performance. Hamish Bennett was also impressive as he took three wickets for his team.
Pakistan would have hoped to get some early wickets in the match but the bowlers did not get much assistance from the wicket. Jesse Ryder was in devastating form as he smashed the ball to all parts of the park.
Ryder scored 55 runs off just 34 balls and hit six fours and two sixes in his innings. He was caught in the deep after taking his team to a safe position.
Martin Guptill and Ross http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 remained unbeaten until the end and guided their team to victory in the 18th over. Guptill scored 40 runs whereas Taylor amassed 23 runs.
The lone wicket-taker for Pakistan was Sohail Tanvir. Southee was named as the Man of the Match for his brilliant performance.
