The New Zealand side for the five ODI series against India has been announced and sees the return of many of the players who did not play in the ill-fated series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 in October this year.
New Zealand were crushed 0-4 by Bangladesh in that series.
The 15-man squad will see the return of wicket-keeper batsman Gareth Hopkins after his decent performances with the gloves in the Tests against India. This will mean that he will back Brendon McCullum up
while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BJ-Watling-c1172 will miss out on the selection after a poor series in Bangladesh.
Apart from this, the New Zealand selectors have also named two other cricketers who had not made it to Bangladesh - Scott Styris and Martin Guptill. Styris had picked up an injury before the start of the
series while Guptill had been dropped from that series after he had shown glimpses of poor form. There is also place for opening batsman Jamie How in the squad.
Fast bowler Hamish Bennett and Shanan Stewart miss out on the selection. Bennett injured himself in the first Test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stewart-c91370 had a woeful series against Bangladesh, score only 26 runs
at an average of less than seven.
How hasn’t been the part of the New Zealand squad since 2008 but his performances for his first class side http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Central-Districts-c777 as a captain in the Champions League T20 meant that he was also selected.
New Zealand coach and selector Mark Greatbatch welcomed the selection of How as he said, "The squad sees the return of Jamie How who deserves his opportunity after impressing the selectors for some time.
We feel one-day cricket is the format for him to return to international cricket."
New Zealand take on India in a five-match series that starts from November 28. The five matches will be played in Guwahati, Jaipur, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Baroda-c769, Bangalore and Chennai.
