New Zealand to announce new coach before the end of 2011 - Rugby News
New Zealand Rugby Union has hinted that they will announce their new coach before the end of 2011. The decision from the New Zealand Rugby Union will put a full stop to the long reign of Graham Henry who has been working with the All Blacks since the last
six year. Graham Henry has spent a highly successful era with the All Blacks and led them to every title other than Rugby World Cup. NZRU confirmed on August 26 that the new coach will be deployed before the end of 2011.
The coach took charge of the side in 2005 and was heavily criticised by the rugby pundits as the All Blacks were knocked out from quarter final stages during RWC 2007. However, New Zealand Rugby Union decided to carry on with Henry and later on the decision
proved absolutely right for them. During his tenure, the All Blacks have won four Tri-Nations titles in six outgoings, couple grand slams and unbeaten run in northern hemisphere.
Graham Henry started off his coaching career way back in 1973 for Auckland Grammar School and finally paved his way to the highest level of his country. His professional coaching was elevated from the Super Rugby derby Blues’ which he undertook in 1996.
Henry has also coached the Welsh side for four years and British and Irish Lions for one year. He came back to New Zealand and joined the All Blacks in 2004 as an assistant coach.
Talking to the reporters about deploying the new coach of All Blacks, NZRU Chief Executive Steve Tew said that, “We now believe we have got as good a resource as there is in the country. by close of business before Christmas ... hopefully a week or two earlier
than that.”
Steve Tew further said that, “We are going out to all the coaches who are eligible to be a head coach of the All Blacks and making sure they understand and know the process," said Tew. Realistically, it's not a general ad in the paper - there are only a
specific group of people who qualify.”
Graham Henry has not responded to the fresh move from the NZRU.
