New Zealand v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 - New Zealand tour of United States of America and West Indies (2nd T20I) – Match Recap – Windies secure series with 61-run win
Powered by Chris Gayle’s half-century and a quick death overs contribution by Dwayne Bravo, followed by Sunil Narine’s 4-wicket haul, the West Indies succeeded in claiming a 61-run victory over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 in the second and final T20I, securing the series
at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida, on July 1.
With skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KS-Williamson-c1813 stepping in to lead the team in his absence, New Zealand put forth another insipid performance in the face of the Windies onslaught.
Pacers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TG-Southee-c2659 bled an excess of runs which enabled the Windies to post a total of 177, while the highest individual score during the Kiwis’ innings remained Daniel Flynn’s 22.
Set a target of 178 to chase, the Black Caps received two early blows courtesy Narine –openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RJ-Nicol-c2331 (7) had only managed to set up a 26-run stand before both were dismissed by the 24-year old spinner, once after the other, in
the 5th over.
Skipper Williamson, coming in at number 4, failed to pull his team out of the downward spiral, and was run out in the 6th over by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Johnson-Charles-c69060 off
Badree, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dean-Brownlie-c1349 met a similar fate in the very next over, with Narine claiming him for his third victim of the day after a mere 1 run contribution.
By this point, the Kiwis were at 43 for 5, and the duo of Flynn (22) and wicketkeeper Tom Latham (19) attempted to get the team back on track with a 26-run 6th wicket stand – however, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marlon-Nathaniel-Samuels-c74804 stepped in to nip the partnership in the bud.
The 31-year-old off-spinner sent Flynn packing in the 13th over, and claimed Latham in the 15th.
The Windies bowling attack continued their ruthless assault - Narine completed his 4-wicket haul with the dismissal of all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Ellis-c1037 in the 16th over, finishing with figures of 4 for 12, which won him the Player of the Match award.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/NL-McCullum-c2120 (14) back to the pavilion in the 19th over. The Kiwis found themselves all out at 116, 61 runs short of the target with 8 deliveries remaining
– a performance which sets off alarm bells, with the ODI series against the Windies due to begin later this week.
In addition to their half-hearted batting, the Kiwis’ bowling attack was similarly lacklustre. While they managed to send opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DR-Smith-c1401 (13) back to the pavilion in the second over, caught and bowled by Bracewell, there wasn’t much they could do to
restrict Gayle at first.
The Jamaican all-rounder, went on to score a vital 53, after an impressive unbeaten 85 in the first T20I – outings which won him the Player of the Series award. His 72-run partnership with Charles (36) ended only when the latter was dismissed by Nicol. However,
McCullum struck a deadly double blow in the 16th over, when he bowled out Gayle, and followed it up with the dismissal of Simmons (18) 4 deliveries later.
Skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382 managed a mere 13-run contribution before Southee took him out of the game in the 19th over, but Bravo stepped up with a quick-fire 35 off 11 deliveries which propelled his side to a solid 177-run total.
Rounding off a successful T20I series, 2-0, the Windies will be looking to continue in a similar vein as the tour shifts to the Caribbean for 5 ODIs and 2 Tests, with the first one-day scheduled to begin on July 5 at the Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica.
