New Zealand v Zimbabwe: Kiwis announce squad for ODI and Twenty20 – Cricket News Update
New Zealand Cricket, on Saturday, January 28, 2012, announced the One-Day International and Twenty20 squad that will take on Zimbabwe in the upcoming series.
Brendon McCullum, the wicket-keeper batsman will lead the 14-men ODI and Twenty20 squad in the absence of Ross Taylor, who has been sidelined for four weeks due to a calf-injury.
Kim Littlejohn, New Zealand selection Manager, confirmed the news that McCullum will be in-charge of the side until http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LRPL-Taylor-c1849 unavailable through injury, Brendon McCullum will step
in as captain for the rest of the series and we know he will provide excellent leadership while Ross recovers.”
Littlejohn has high expectations from the squad picked for the series. The selection manager believes that the mix of youth peppered with experience will be beneficial for them team in the long run.
“We believe we have selected two strong squads with a balance of experienced players and cricketers we consider ready for the challenge of international cricket,” said Littlejohn.
The squad announced has a lot of new names, and Littlejohn explained that the purpose of selecting uncapped players was to build the team for the 2015 World Cup and the Twenty20 World Cup in 2012. The national selection manager also encouraged the cricketers,
who’ll be earning their first cap for the Kiwis, by showing that they have all earned these chances.
“The new caps have earned their chance through solid performances at domestic level and we think it's the right time to take a look at players who will be in the frame for the Twenty20 World Cup later in the year, and looking further ahead to the 2015 ODI
World Cup,” said Littlejohn.
