New Zealand Cricket announced the 13-man squad for the Test series against Zimbabwe on Monday, January 23, 2012. The finalized list includes the name of uncapped all-rounder from Otago, Sam Wells.
Wells, who has yet to feature in an international Test match for the Kiwis, has been picked in the squad at a back of solid domestic performances with the bat for Otago. In the recently concluded domestic competition of New Zealand, the Plunket Shield, the
all-rounder scored an impressive 228 runs in four matches, at an average of 38.00, while chipping in with two wickets.
New Zealand selectors placed their faith in Wells, and he was picked for the warm-up game against the Zimbabweans. The left-handed batsman did not disappoint, as he scored 65 runs in difficult batting conditions to propel the hosts to a reasonable first
innings total of 272 runs. His innings helped the host team to salvage a draw in the warm-up game.
