New Zealand vs Bangladesh  2nd ODI Preview: NZ wants to even series
The Match
New Zealand play Bangladesh in the second ODI of the five match series on Friday. The game will played at the same ground as the first one was played, at Mirpur in Dhaka. However, the Kiwis will be hoping that the result is not the same as the previous one.
Bangladesh had beaten the New Zealand team Tuesday in a rain-affected game in the first ODI despite being the less fancied of the two teams. It was a result that was brought about by a stunning collapse thanks to the Bangladeshi spinners, and the Kiwis will be looking to find out ways to play the slower bowlers.
Bangladesh will miss their captain, Mashrafe Mortaza as  well as Nazmul Hossain, but they may not be too bothered because the two are pace bowlers and the track assists the spinners.
The Pitch:
For most part of the first ODI the track at Mirpur seemed to assist the slower bowlers. In the Bangladesh innings, Daniel Vettori and Nathan McCullum did a good job, while Shakib al Hasan and Abdur Razzaq returned back the compliment when the Kiwis batted. Things are not going to change too much in a hurry and with the heat and humidity around, the pitches are going to get slower and lower as the series progresses.
New Zealand:
The Kiwis had gone into the series with their skipper Vettori having warned them of not being complacent. It is difficult to pinpoint the exact reason, but it was clear that the New Zealand batting made a hash of the chase and lost a game that they should have won. Brendon McCullum was the one batsman who carried his team’s hopes but the advantage that he had was that he was facing the quicker bowlers and the ball came on to the bat much better.
What the Kiwis need to do is to put the game out of the system and have Ross Taylor bat up the order. BJ Watling’s scrappy duck did not make things easier for the side and the New Zealand team needs to get as many runs as possible before the ball goes soft.
Players to watch out for:
Taylor may or may not bat at three, but he has been the one in-form player for New Zealand this year and will look to make his form count in the lead-up to the World Cup.
Bangladesh:
Bangladesh were surprisingly good in the field and their bowling was excellent in the first ODI. But the absence of their regular captain, Mortaza will mean that the man of the match from the previous game and former skipper Shakib will take over as the skipper. This will put unnecessary pressure on his shoulder and it remains to be seen how he handles it as a batsman.
One can expect Bangladesh to get in an extra spinner for this game and even contemplate opening the bowling with a slow bowler.
Players to watch out for:
Shahriar Nafees will need to bat through the innings for the Bangladeshi side.
