New Zealand vs Pakistan – 2nd test day 1
Pakistan gained an edge on the end of day one of the 2nd test of the 2 match test series against New Zealand. Adnan Akmal was the star of the show for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, as the young wicketkeeper took 5 catches and proved his worth as a wicket keeper.
The Kiwis won the toss and elected to bat first on a track that was looking favourable for batting. Pakistan's pace attack did well in the initial period and, apart from Ross Taylor, no batsman was able to impose himself on the wicket. New Zealand ended the
day at 246 for the loss of 6 wickets.
Umar Gul had quite the surprise for the New Zealand batsmen from the very start of the match; the fast bowler got one to move in sharply and Brendon McCullum was caught plum in front of the stumps for just 2 runs. A breakthrough in the very first over gave
the visitors great confidence and one could sense a spring in their stride.
Martin Guptil and Kane Williamson dodged seaming deliveries as Umar Gul and Wahab Riaz built the pressure. The two took the score to 46 and Williamson was then shown the way back to the dressing rooms; the right hander edged one to Adnan Akmal, off the bowling
of Umar Gul. He scored 21 runs.
Ross Taylor, the in-form man for New Zealand, came in next and joined Guptil in the centre. The two pounced on anything slightly short or wide and put on 52 runs for the 3rd wicket. The partnership was broken when Martin Guptil was caught behind,
off the bowling of Tanvir Ahmed, for 29 runs. The next man in, Jessi Ryder, was sent back on the very next delivery as Tanvir Ahmed got on a hat trick. Ryder edged one to the wicket-keeper, who made no mistake in cashing in the opportunity.
With the scoreboard reading 98 for 4, the Black Caps looked to be in a spot of bother, but James Franklin walked in next and lived up to his reputation by putting up a good stand with Ross Taylor. The two added 68 runs for the 5th wicket and
dug in deep to stand up against the Pakistan attack.
James Franklin was dismissed for 33 runs by offering Adnan Akmal his 4th catch of the game. Ross http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 left soon after in the same way for a well made 78. This completed the 5 wicket haul for Adnan Akmal, behind the stumps.
New Zealand were at 180 for 6 and in danger of crumbling down in another humiliating display. Captain, Daniel Vettori and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Reece-Young-c2302 made sure that they gave the innings some stability and took the cautious approach. The two were together for almost the
entire final session. They put up 66 runs for the 7th wicket. At close of play, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 were at 246 for the loss of 6 wickets, with Vettori and Young not out at 38 and 28 repectively.
