Josh Geary played the first round of the Q-School with a healthy start at the Crooked Cat golf course and carded an unyielding 69.
The New Zealander played enough golf in the first round to be regarded in the race for 2011. Geary thus played a solid round 1 that managed to give him a good push for his trek to next year's U.S PGA Tour.
The first round of the final Q-School event held at the Orange National complex witnessed Geary card a 3 under and landed in the 7th place tied.
Geary's appearance on the final leg of the Q-School is owed to his play for the Australasian Tour Order of Merit. The golfer from New Zealand achieved 4th place in the Order of Merit and adorned his score card with a
total of 5 birdies whose effect subdued a bit after Geary carded 2 bogeys in the Q-School round.
He has also played in the Canadian tour 2010 and said that his current strategy has been to maintain momentum throughout the game.
The final stage of the Q-School is scheduled from the 1st of December and is a 108 hole kick between 150 players. A total of 19 players have been able to step into Florida from the previous round and a total of top 25
players will be achieving the full playing rights to the PGA Tour for 2011. The next 50 golfers will be holders of full cards for a second-tier Nationwide Tour.
"I think my start had been good and my trek for an under par was early" Geary said.
Regarding the golf course, Geary labeled it as gigantic and said that it has a monstrous nature to it. Other than that, Geary reported the 7500 yards GC's attack on the golfers with squalling wind made the players perform a few
tees up in their play.
He talked about his strategy on the unplayable holes and said that his main focus is on driving the ball glowingly. Geary stated that although he couldn’t play the irons well, his short game came out good. He preferred breaking
it all up in small segments and said that he has a 9 hole segmentation scheduled for the coming rounds.
Apart from Geary, his fellow New Zealanders Danny Lee, Michael Hendry as well as Steven Alker have all been unable to perform on the pace.
