New Zealand’s promising young seamer Hamish Bennett has been ruled out of the Zimbabwean tour following a back injury. He made his international debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 last year.
The Kiwi director of cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Marshall-Buchanan-c68302 stated, “Hamish complained of soreness in his lower back that intensified following training. He had undertaken scans and the medical team have ruled out serious pathological injures such as a stress fracture.”
The former Australian coach further added, “I believe that with a thorough rehabilitation program Hamish will be able to return to cricket some time soon but unfortunately he is unlikely to recover in time for the our of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045.”
Bennett has been impressive since in debut in international cricket. He has decent pace and does swing the ball as well, but can be a touch expensive at times. However, that is not a big concern for the youngster, as he will only get better with time once he learns the tricks of the trade.
The good news for the New Zealand supporters is that Bennett will be available for selection when his side tours http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. The youngster will be looking forward to perform against the Kangaroos on their home soil.
Apart from Bennett, the Kiwi all-rounder Grant Elliott was also unavailable for selection due to a torn calf muscle. He will also be looking forward to get fit before his side visits Australia.
Injury problems are not new for the Kiwi team, as they have always struggled with the issue in the past. One of their biggest losses in the recent times was fast bowler Shane Bond.
The express fast bowler was one of the deadliest in New Zealand history. He had the ability to bowl above 90 miles an hour with consistently and swung the ball with excellent control.
However, Bond’s career only lasted 18 Tests, 82 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 20 Twenty20 games.
Although there are a couple of express bowlers making their way through into the Kiwi team, they will have to be looked after very carefully. The fans in the country would not like to see their young bowlers ending up like Bond.
