New Zealand’s Josh Junior leads Laser fleet on Day 3 of 2011 Sail Sydney – Sailing News
A dazzling show was put up by New Zealand’s Josh Junior in the Laser races of 2011 Sail Sydney on Day 3. The Kiwi sailor clinched all three races of the day to hit the top spot with 19 points to take a lead over the fleet. Junior will now be looking forward
to retain the lead on Day 4 too, to claim the overall title of Sail Sydney.
Home favourite, James Burman, displayed a low form but still managed to cling to the second podium with 30 points followed by America’s Charlie Buckingham on third position with 35 points after 10 races, including a discard race.
Weather conditions on third day were a bit challenging for the fleet, as the day began with rain pouring with a moderate 11 knot breeze, which troubled the sailors. Despite such tough sailing forecasts, competitors managed to complete the scheduled races
on third day.
The first race was led by Junior from the start until the end followed closely by Polish contestant, Jonasz Stelmaszyk, who grabbed second spot in the race. Race 2 was a bit challenging for the fleet but Junior made it to the top mark ahead of American sailor,
Buckingham. Burman croosed the finish line on eighth and fourth number in first two races but in the third, he was able to finish second.
