  1. Sounds like your old unit was 220v, and the new one is 110v.  If that is the case, there is no 'conversion kit'.  You need to have the circuit rewired for 110v.  I'd strongly recommend an electrician in this case.

You should be aware that most of the time, a 220v air conditioner has a larger capacity than a 110v air conditioner.  Meaning it can produce more cool air, and do it less expensively.  Using a smaller unit in the same space could mean it will cost more in electricity usage, AND it may not keep up as well.

I'd suggest you take a photo of the outlet (stick something alongside for size reference, like a quarter, or measuring stick, when you make a photo) with you to a hardware store, or building supply store to identify the outlet.  You may want to return your new unit if it is indeed a 220v outlet.

  2. There is no conversion kit you need to have the plug changed  by a electrician

  3. huge prongs??? like 2 at aslant and  1 straight?

mmm funny you didn't try your super mega hardware store- some smaller chains don't offer much aid   lots of times a new outlet is much less stress

  4. I work for an Electrical Supply House.....there is no such thing as a conversion kit.  You have a bigger unit, my guess is a 220 volt where a 120 volt was before.  You will have to rewire that circuit.

  5. Either call an electrician like the electrician says or buy a heavy duty extension cord and plug it in that way. Look for a cable sturdy enough to handle the electrical load without creating a fire hazard.

  6. Was your old unit a 220V? Is your new unit a 110V?

If so, you don't need a 'conversion kit' , you need to plug it into a completely different receptacle.
