Question:

New above ground pool losing water - leak or evaporation??

18' round pool was first filled with water on the 3rd of July. I have been noticing about a half inch of water loss every couple of days. I am wondering if it's normal for a new pool's level to drop like this due to the sand packing down. I don't see any moisture around the pool or filter system. It has been pretty warm here the last couple of days.

  1. evaporation is a big reason for water loss. if it is just a half an inch a day then its no big problem.

  2. That’s normal my in ground pool needs water every few days.

  3. We used to have a pool and it did the same thing. It's probably just evaporation because later there was a little leak and it was losing way more water than that.

  4. Lots of kids?  Lots of splashing?

  5. Yes , I've had two of them...........and that is typical............it's just fitting into it's own situation.......plus a little evaporation....have fun............

  6. heres a few tips on leak detection: http://www.swimming-pool-information.com...

  7. could be both. it probably is just evaporating since it's a hot

summer, but make sure it's not leaking. My pool started leaking by the seams. and it's hard to find a hole in a pool like that.

  8. A simple test is in order.  Set a bucket full of water right next to it.  Measure how fast it evaporates....  At least, you can rule out one possibility.

  9. Maybe check under the filter, there may be a leak under it.  If you have kids, or if you splash around in it, then water tends to go out and dry there.  As far as I know, there's no way pool water is going to noticeably evaporate.  Hope that helps!
