Anyone know any ways (besides just asking) to get out of stupid move in fees such as Credit check, admin fee's and application fees? Need to save money and these days there is no such thing as set in stone. Thanks for your help.

  1. With the market as bad as it is in most places right now, they may be willing to work something out with you if you threaten to lease somewhere else just because they have less or no money out of pocket. The leasing agent will try to do everything to save you, especially being that she/he most likely gets a commission from you moving there regardless of what fees you pay. Ask what their occupancy is and talk to the property manager, if the leasing agent says they can't do anything.

  2. You'll have better luck dealing with a private landlord. I'm a landlord.  I also want to avoid any fees that don't make my life better.  And i don't like to "nickel and dime" a new tenant.  I want him to be happy with my rental house.

You can bargain with anyone about anything.  The problem for you is that the landlord doesn't know (in advance ) if you are the dream tenant he's been waiting for .....or.... are you a difficult tenant and he'll be sorry he gave you any breaks at all.  Reassure him that you are the former not the latter.
