Question:

New area code? Moved?

I use to live in Sioux City, Iowa and the area code is 712 there. I recently moved to Ames, Iowa for college. The zip code here is 515. My question is do people have to dial 712 or 515 and my number to contact me? What about dialing to someone back in Sioux City? Do I have to dial 712 and the number?

  1. WOW i had know idea that your area codes are so complicated out there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. The other option is to get a digital phone service and keep the 712 area code.  Digital phone service allows you to pick an area code and phone number anywhere in the US.  Or, you can use your local cell phone number.  Here is a suggested website: www.digitalphonenow.com

    Good luck!

  3. Yes, they will have to dial the full ten digit number in order to call you, even if they are on a home phone or on a cell phone..

    Good luck at college!!!

  4. i.e: (515)-123-4567

Do I have to dial 712 and the number? yes!

  5. First zip codes have nothing to do with telephones.  I think you meant area codes.

Anyone calling you will now need to use your new area code (515).  When you calling back to Sioux City, you will use the 712 area code.

You use the area code of the location you are calling.

That is all for land lines.

If you have a cell phone and you haven't changed your number, folks will call the old area code.

  6. Not sure. But I think you may have to.
