New at rugby?

I'm 17 years old and have always wanted to play rugby! I watch it on tv occasionally, but have just fell in LOVE with the sport! I want to join a team here, and I've found one but I'm too nervous to go to a practice with them (even though I've been invited!) because I haven't played before and tend to SUCK at sports.

Is rugby a "good game" for a person like me with absolutely no sports ability? I atleast want to try but I'm just so nervous of messing up and getting yelled at (like in gym class)!

  1. Well you are going to get  hit abit unless your a wing or fullback. In rugby there are lots of positions for everyone. You just got to fgind out which it is. It will be hard since you need to get your body in shape a bit. Do some exercise when not on the pitch. Dont jog two miles, your just kidding yourself rugby is about sprinting and taking a 30 second break and then sprinting again. Do some suicides or like jog1 block and then sprint 1 and then jog another. Then gradually increase how much you can sprint. Just dont stop. Dont worry about being yelled at. Everyone is not ver good at a sport they have never tried. You will be fine just dont let it get to you and suck it up. Dont get nervous. Just relax and have fun. Dont be afraid to get tackled or tackle. That hesitation will get you hurt. Have fun its a great game.

  2. Im 17 and a chick and have been playing rugby nearly all my life i just so love the game you know.

I say to you to go for it go practice and learn all about rugby because its great. Also even if you dont know how to play or dont know the rules I think you should just give it a go and then you will find out if Rugby is a good game for you.

Now sure your going to make a mistake or two i know i have but hae not every one is perfect and yea you will probably get yelled at but you just take it in and get over it. Stuff like that made me stronger.

  3. just go down t a club some where, most clubs tend to have a male and female team

when i started playing rugby, i had no skill at all! i was awful, but when you play it again and again you ghet used to the sport, and i play it so much now, that everything in the sport is second nature, i dont have to think about hwat im doing, so as you play more you get ALOT better

and at club coaches tend to be more understanding when you start something for the first time

and the male and female game are pretty much the same, themale game is probably more intense though due to size and strength, but both are similar

    hope i helped!

  4. Give it a go

Don't be scared of making some mistakes. If you don't make any you will be the first player in the history of the game not to.

The biggest mistake you can make is to be scared of making one.

  5. its the same for women and men...good on ya for wanting to play
