My probem is, is that I have never owned a budgie before. My budgie (Derek) is really scared of me and flaps around the cage when i put my hand in. Im just wondering what i can do to make it trust me more and so that it will start to like me? Also what kind of treats or food should i get it?

  1. give him some time to adjust to his new home first ....read up on training in the meantime. Good Luck

  2. I went through that as well with my three budgies. One thing that I did is to put you hand in the cage by the door and leave it there for about 15 minutes everyday this will get your budgie to start getting use to your hand being in the cage. Every day when you do this get a little closer to the bird without scaring it untill its comforable with you hand being there. To get it to start stepping up we used a stick and put it through the cage and had it stepping up on it. After a while we put our hand in the cage and slowly moved towards the bird. If the bird lets you put your hand in front of it push on its chest and it will step up. It it doesn't step up try it again the next day untill it steps up. Some treats that budgies love is lettuce That has to be their favorite treat ever and your budgie will live longer with a healthy diet. Also they love millet spray. If you need any more help about budgies contact me and ill answer the questions that I can

  3. First of all, you have to gain Derek's trust.  Don't just stick your hand in the cage, but try talking to it first.  Let the bird get used to you and move on from there.  Treats wise: millet is always a favorite with my budgies, also they sell various treats at Petco, Petsmart, etc.  Good luck!
