New board game?

im supposed to design a new soccer based board game....anyone have any ideas?? any ideas much appreciated..

Make the player pieces soccer jerseys.  That would be cute.  :)

Incorporate yellow and red cards somehow.  Make similar to LIFE.

That will give you an idea of what's possible with a few wooden men and a 6-sided die.

15x12 Grid (Black out all but the middle 4 squares on each end for the Goals)

Take the non pawn pieces from a standard Chess set and place the King as the goalie. Players can place the other 7 pieces anywhere on their side of midfield. Use something to denote the ball. Pieces move like they do in Chess and carry the ball. Once a piece has moved (or at the start of the turn).. the piece holding the ball can pass/shoot the ball upto 3 spaces in a straight line (in any direction). If the pass connects with another of that player's pieces.. the player can then move that piece. Players can keep moving pieces until they score or cannot pass the ball. Each piece can only move once per turn. On "defense".. if a  player moves his/her piece adjacent to the ball-carrier.. the ball is stolen.

At the end of a player's turn they can move the King.

Ok.. so this was off the top of my head.. so I am sure you can think of something.. but if not.. you're more than welcome to use this idea.

Board like a field, use dice for results...come up with all outcomes for dice rolls, maybe have cards for special actions etc.
