If the mother is a UK citizen, it will be better for the child and will eliminate immigration hassles for the mother to get a UK passport for her child. The child has a right to UK citizenship! If she tries messing with US passport for baby, remember, baby (like any US citizen tourist) can only stay a limited time. How is she going to get baby back to US and then re-enter UK again? Nasty, tedious, expensive! Get the UK passport for baby and no problems!

US citizens of any age do not need visas to enter the UK. Apply for a US passport for the child. I just got one for my baby and it took only 10 days to receive it back.

well if one of the parents was a british citizen he is a british citizen and can apply for a passport
