  1. Hiccups in babies as well as children and adults are an unintentional contraction of your diaphragm.  What causes them is pretty much an unknown in the medical field.  Sometimes a sudden swallowing of air or an emotional stress such as excessive crying or uncontrollable laughter will bring on a bout of hiccups.  Some babies even get hiccups when they are in the womb.  My youngest had hiccups every day, often many times in a day, when I was pregnant with her.  They are not harmful, but can be uncomfortable and often babies will cry, squirm, and fuss when they have them.  You can try offering him the breast if you are breast feeding or see if he will drink a bit of formula if you aren't nursing.  Sometimes the rhythmic motion of sucking will ease the hiccups and a baby who will take a pacifier may find some relief from the hiccups while sucking on it.  It has sometimes been speculated that infants get them frequently because they are still getting used to breathing outside the womb and often have irregular breathing patterns.  There isn't much you can do to assure they won't happen as often, but as your son gets older his frequency of hiccups should decrease.  Hiccups in babies are very common, most babies will get them at some time or another.  There is some speculation that frequent hiccups may be related to acid reflux, but this does not mean that a baby with frequent hiccups always has reflux, only that frequent hiccups may be just one of the symptoms.  Bottle fed babies get more air into their systems than breast fed babies so it is helpful to frequently burp a bottle fed baby.  This may help decrease the frequency of hiccups as well.

  2. There is no real reason why they have hiccups, my 2 kids both had them bad too. The only thing I found that sometimes helped was to dip their soother in gripe water. It may help your little one too!

  3. My little girl had the hiccups all the time in my tummy and also once she was born... they doctors told me it was normal... i've had problems with her feeding since she was born and she's now been diagnosed with reflux and is on reflux... if your having other problems or your worried speak to your doctor

  4. My son is 2 months old and gets them nearly every day. Unfortunately when they get the hiccups, you have to let it go until they pass as there is nothing you can do for them.

Babies can get frustrated and start crying when it happens, so make your little one feel as comfortable as possible until they pass.

Don't worry. Hiccups can last up to 30 minutes.

  5. Mine had them ALL the time! There really isn't much you can do...my son would start to cry then they would go away...sometimes after 30minutes!!

I think it's also a sign of reflux, which my son has. He gets them much less now since he is on Zantac, not sure if its a coincidence.

I know it can be upsetting to you!!

  6. A sip of water will help.  No more than two ounces per day though.

  7. very normal..old wives tale says when they hiccup, they're growing

  8. Babies get hiccups, my little girl use to get them as much as your baby did when she was first born, there really isnt much you can do. Now she is 2 months old and gets them once a day. When my little girl got the hiccups she use to cry and get upset and they usually started up more, so I try to calm her down and get her mind off them. I see that they usually go away faster if you do that. Also, my grandma said water always works to get rid of them, not even a oz she suggested.

Your baby might even have acid reflex (not to worry very common, and treated, it will most likely go away in later life) hiccups could be a sign of it along with spitting up, and fussiness whenever laying down (you have to be sure if she is fussy because she is in pain when you lay her down or just wanting to be held)

I was in the hospital, my baby wasnt even a day old when she got hiccups I made the father run and get a nurse because I didnt know what to do. She laughed and told me everything is fine. Good luck!

  9. my daughter has been doing it from the day she came home from the hospital too, it always starts after she burps or when Im trying to burp her.  It helps a lot of I get a burp out as soon as she's done eating, but not always...

  10. This is very normal. Both of my kids got them everyday a number of times. If you breastfeed give him some boob. If you bottle feed give him a bottle for a few minutes. Make sure and burp him good after every feeding.  :)

  11. I THINK ITS TOO MUCH AIR GETTING THROUGH WEN YOUR BABY FEEDS, NEW BORN BABYS CAN HAVE HAVE COOLED BOILED WATER SO JUST TRY THAT INBETWEEN FEEDS
