New car....?

how do i go about asking my parents for a new car without over doing it???

i am 17. and have a 01 saturn with 110,000 miles on it. i have had this car almost 2 yrs (2yrs in sept).

i believe that i have shown them that i am responsible. i havent had any tickets or have been in any accident. my car looks like it did the day we bought it. i dont feel comfortable driving it most of the time because it jerks when i press on the accelerator too hard. i have known the car i want for the past 2 yrs.

Just tell them what you told us:  You kind of want a new one for this school year.

If they don't go for it, they probably have good reasons why they want you to wait a year.  Don't argue about it, just ask.  Also, they will probably fix anything that breaks on your car while you're in high school, and just want you to have a trouble free car when you are on your own.

chill.  there are lots of people that would be perfectly happy with the Saturn.  Be patient and don't bug mommy and daddy because it's not exactly what you want.

Get a job and pay half of the car.  Grow up, stop just thinking about yourself just be happy you have a car to get you from one place to the other.

Well I understand, hanging out with a Saturn is not very pleasant. All right, you want to get rid of the Saturn getting other car so listen carefully. First Talk to your parents about this:

you know dad, i will like a new car, this one is very fine but i would like to change for other kind of car. When you were my age did you dream to have a gremlin or a ford pinto?(they are going to catch the pinto joke very Quickly ( he will tell you: you cant compare a Pinto with a Saturn!,) Tell him that this is the reality today

Then talk with them about selling the Saturn, and with this money (after selling your car ) ask to them if they can help you buy a new car,( i mean, a different one ). Like this you can give 40 or 30% of the money invested and your parents can give the rest to buy a new car

All right, now you get the basics, i recommend you to be very calm ALL THE TIME! DOnt stress out!! This is very important, because you know that they cant take a decision like this in 2 Seconds, (they may tell you we are going to think, or ; I dont know, why  dont wait a little more) this can be helpfull to take the decision.

OOW; i forgot! when you are going to talk to them, you have to give the impression that this is very important: tell them that you have to talk about something important, we need to sit down and talk, you know. Also if they say no, DONT get mad, Just be very nice ,dont ask too much and yes, tell them what you told us =)

You know what? You earned a new car. Having to put up with a POS Saturn that jerks when you accelerate and is already 7-8 years old means that you deserve not only a medal but a new (to you) vehicle. You aren't asking for a brand new Mercedes SUV, you just want something that doesn't give you grief. I don't see the problem other people seem to find with your request. It's not like you're asking mommy and daddy for something unreasonable.

Explain to them that you're extremely uncomfortable in your car and have been as responsible as any parent would hope of their child. I would imagine that you aren't going to ask for something extravagant to replace this one. As long as your request is appropriate, you make a good case for yourself. Just tell them what you told us here. Best of luck, seriously.

Just tell them you don't feel safe in the Saturn and you would like a newer car with more safety features.

try to find these cars with side curtain air bags, ESC and ABS brakes. They are all safe and reliable.

Your Saturn is fine.  It may just need the fuel system cleaned or something.  Have you had it checked out be a mechanic?  I'm sure it's fuel efficient and still reliable.  Getting a new car now will send your parents' insurance through the roof.
