  1. Read the instructions on the V5 itself!

The SELLER of the vehicle has to fill in the new keeper's details, both parties sign the form, and the SELLER sends off the first page to the DVLA.

The green tear-off part (section 10) is given to the buyer as proof of ownership until the new V5 is sent to them.

When you sell a vehicle, unless you fill in the new owner's details and send the form to the DVLA, you are still held responsible for taxing the vehicle, and also for any parking tickets etc.

  2. The previous owner should have given you the V5 (logbook), they should have removed the 'Declaration' and got you to sign it, they have 30 days to send that to DVLA Swansea SA99 1AL, or they can incur a fine.  You should have been given the rest of the V5, you need to fill the new keeper section and send that off to the DVLA too, or if the car needs to be taxed, you can fill it in and ask the Post Office or LVLO (Local Vehicle Licencing Office) to send it for you.

  3. You send in the complete half that you've filled in the details on. You keep the green slip from the other half until your new V5 arrives, and chuck the other coloured slips away ( the ones for scrapping the car or selling to a trader).

Send the V5 to: DVLA, Swansea SA99 1DD

  4. SEND WHOLE PAGE TO DVLA SWANSEA
