New car with the best gas mileage ? and the cheapest new car

no hybrids ! i just want to know the cheapest car i can buy brand new that's gets great gas mileage thank you

according to consumer reports the 3 lowest cars in cost relative to MPG, listed in order are

1.  toyota yaris

2.  hyndai accent (3 door hatch)

3.  honda fit

all with manual transmission.  oh, and consumer reports complains about the first two's emergency handling.

another that they had not tested, and didn't list partially b/c they list MSRP and not the deals you can get, is the chevy cobalt xfe, which is rated to 36 mpg on the 2008 ratings system (42 old system).  it lists higher than the other three, but i've seen them under 11K new here.

Toyota Corolla. Great looking. Small. Great gas milage. Costs between 17k and 22k depending on the options!
